African Street Style Festival

Africa is coming to East London! Next Sunday 26th July the streets of Shoreditch will be overtaken by a vibrant array of Africa-inspired creations: from fashion exhibitions, to music, art, photography, dance and traditional street food.

2015 marks the third year of The African Street-Style Festival, an open showcase celebrating the influence of the African continent past and present. Highlights will include Irineu Coguiera’s expressive drumming and dance group, a show-stopping catwalk show by highly respected Shoreditch-based stylist Samson SOBOYE, and delicious and imaginative street food from Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen. Also on the day, Calvert 22, the unique art space and headquarters of the Calvert 22 Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation promoting contemporary art and culture from the new east, will be opening its doors to the public to showcase five fantastic documentaries produced by Stockton Films as part of their Afripedia project – a curated online platform focusing on African contemporary culture. Prepare to be inspired by the compelling stories of African artists pushing the boundaries of creative self-expression.

This is just a snapshot of what’s on offer so come along and experience the sights, sounds and tastes of Africa for yourselves and enjoy a lively, family-friendly (and free!) day out.

The African Street Style Festival takes place on the 26th of July from 12-7pm. For more information, visit their website.
