Africa Utopia: Art & Ideas From Africa That Are Changing The World
Africa Utopia is back! For the third year running, the popular Africa-inspired festival is hitting Southbank London on September 10th-13th, to celebrate arts and culture from the one of the world's most dynamic and vibrant continents. The festival aims to explore how Africa can lead the way in thinking about society, gender, power, politics, sustainability and activism, by giving a platform to artists and emerging voices from the continent and diaspora. Over three days you will be able to see fresh perspectives on contemporary Africa through a mixture of music, dance, literature and debates. Its not to be missed!
Highlights include a performance by Senegalese supergroup Orchestra Baobab, an Afro-Cuban, Son, Wolof and Pachanga band who will be giving their first London show in three years. Fingers crossed they play their amazing song Aduna. We will also be looking out for an appearance by legendary drummer and co-founder of Afrobeat music, Tony Allen who will be joined by master kora player Toumani Diabaté and his son Sidiki Diabaté.
This is just a small snapshot of what's on offer. So if you are in London this weekend, come on down to the Southbank and delve into the many faces of modern Africa with free art, a buzzing marketplace and delicious street-food on site. See you there!
