Founder's Story
The Aduna story began in The Gambia, where our co-founder Andrew discovered a new purpose after the demands of his job led to chronic burnout and mental strain. While there, his experience working in a farming enterprise opened his eyes to the profound impact of superfoods.
Andrew saw not only the supercharged benefits they have on mind, body, and soul, but also the good they can do as a life-changing source of income and empowerment for rural farmers.
Meanwhile, after a business trip brought him to Senegal, Nick was exploring the unique properties of one of Africa’s most nutritious fruits – the Baobab.
United by a shared passion and a determination to connect individual health to the health of our planet, Aduna was born.
Since 2012, Andrew and Nick have been blazing the trails in superfood nutrition and sustainable sourcing, making Aduna one of the pioneers of the industry.
Aduna means ‘life’ or ‘world’
in Wolof, the main local language of Senegal and The Gambia.
Our name and nature reminds us how closely connected all living things are. A healthier you means a healthier world. And a healthier world means a healthier you.
Our logo is adapted from a Ghanaian Adinkra symbol called ‘Owia Kokroko’ which stands for vitality, life-giving energy and the power of the sun.
OUR IMPACT
Aduna is committed to 360-degree wellness for both people and the planet, with sustainable and ethical sourcing at the core of our operations. We work directly with the communities where our superfoods grow, empowering 3,300 female producers with stable incomes to date, enabling them to care for 20,000 dependents. Additionally, we invest in regenerative farming, replanting crops in their natural ecosystems with the support of local communities who nurture and harvest them. So far, working in partnership with Great Green Wall, we have planted 35,000 trees and counting.
