The top health & beauty benefits of hibiscus

1. Gut health

A balanced digestive system is vital to support our gut health and overall wellbeing, ensuring we get all the nutrients we need from our food. A healthy supply of bacteria and digestive enzymes is needed to support effective digestion and absorption. Aduna Hibiscus Powder is a source of calcium which contributes to the normal function of digestive enzymes in the gut. It is also exceptionally high in fibre (33%), helping the good bacteria in our gut thrive.

2. Immunity

The immune system is a complex system of cells, tissues and organs that protects the body against infection and disease. Maintaining a healthy immune system requires a balanced diet and a sufficient intake of specific nutrients, including iron. Aduna Hibiscus Powder is a source of iron, needed to mount effective immune responses to invading pathogens. Iron also contributes to normal formation of red blood cells and haemoglobin which transports oxygen around the body, helping keep the immune system healthy.

3. Healthy, glowing skin

Hibiscus powder is exceptionally rich in antioxidants including polyphenols and anthocyanins, a type of flavonoid that gives red, purple, and blue plants their rich colouring. You only need to look at the vibrant colour of Aduna Hibiscus Powder to see it is a rich source of antioxidants. Antioxidants are molecules found in certain plants that help fight free radicals in the body. Free radicals can damage collagen, which can cause skin dryness, fine lines, wrinkles and premature ageing so eating a diet rich in antioxidants can help prevent damage to the skin, particularly in the long-term.

4. Reduces tiredness & fatigue

Fatigue is when tiredness is overwhelming and isn’t relieved by sleep and rest. A large proportion of the population suffer from feelings of tiredness and fatigue. Maintaining a healthy balanced diet and regular exercise can help but in some cases fatigue can be due to an iron deficiency. Aduna Hibiscus Powder is a source of iron, which is an essential mineral for helping reduce tiredness and fatigue in the body.

5. Source of plant protein

Aduna Hibiscus Powder is a source of plant protein. Proteins are essential for the structure and function of every cell in the body. Ensuring we get enough protein in our diet is important for the growth and repair of all our bodily tissues and organs and our overall wellbeing. Protein is also needed for the growth and maintenance of muscle mass. Our Hibiscus Powder is also a source of calcium which is needed for normal muscle function, making it an ideal supplement for pre and post workout.

6. Boosts energy levels

Aduna Hibiscus Powder is a source of iron and calcium, two minerals that contribute to normal energy-yielding metabolism in the body. Adding 1-2 teaspoons of hibiscus powder to your daily routine is a delicious way to boost your energy levels.

7. Cognitive health

Cognitive health is the ability to clearly think, learn and remember and it is an important component of brain health. Studies show that cognitive development in pre-schoolers is predictive of later school achievement and good cognitive health in adults is important to help reduce the risk of dementia and other health conditions as we get older. Aduna Hibiscus Powder is a source of iron, which is one of the essential minerals needed for normal cognitive development in both children and adults.

8. Healthy bones

Our bones are responsible for our structure, movement and protecting our brain, heart and other organs from injury. As such bone health is an important aspect of wellbeing particularly when we are growing up and as we get older. Aduna Hibiscus Powder is a source of calcium and protein, which are needed for the normal growth and development of bones in children and the maintenance of normal bones in adults. Calcium also helps to reduce the loss of bone mineral in post-menopausal women.

9. Healthy teeth

Aduna Hibiscus Powder is a source of calcium, which is needed for the maintenance of normal teeth in both children and adults.

10. Social impact

Making Hibiscus Powder part of your daily routine doesn’t just boost your wellbeing, it boosts the wellbeing of others. Aduna is a social business on a mission to create sustainable, life-changing incomes for families in rural Africa. Our hibiscus is harvested and processed in Egypt, creating sustainable incomes for almost 100 rural households and ensuring the added value from processing remains within the country.

Hibiscus Fruit Calyx

How is Aduna Hibiscus Powder made?

Our hibiscus is planted in May and harvested in October to November. The fruit calyxes (commonly known as “flowers”) are harvested and the core removed, leaving only the outer part (commonly known as “petals”), which are dried, sieved and ground into a powder. Each batch of Aduna Hibiscus Powder undergoes rigorous microbial analysis in an independent lab and is organic certified by the leading UK organic certifier The Soil Association.
